Tarot: When the Fool Meets the Magician
Nov 14, 2024Tarot and astrology are prime examples of "forbidden" knowledge—truths hiding in plain sight, rich with insights essential for the human journey. Historically, these practices have often been vilified, condemned, or ridiculed in modern Western cultures, perhaps intentionally suppressed by a select few or simply dismissed by those who trusted the prevailing norms. Yet now, this ancient wisdom is reemerging on a global scale, resonating deeply as part of the New Earth's unfolding revelation.
In the quantum realm—or what could be called the spiritual energy of the universe—everything becomes intellectually confusing, and unbiased observation is impossible. Today, many scientists are becoming like the alchemists and occultists of old, recognizing the interconnectedness of all things and remaining curious about what could easily be dismissed. Paradoxes abound: energy can be both a wave and a particle, and an electron can exist in multiple locations simultaneously. Our ego mind creates the illusion of separation and linear progression, yet mysticism, magic, science, and occult practices all aim to understand and engage with the same field of energy, albeit with different focuses and intentions.
Mystics channel information freely, while occultists seek to embody it. Scientists strive to explain and improve upon natural processes. The difference and fear surrounding these practices often lie in their intentions and methods—whether they force outcomes or listen and cultivate natural processes.
The Tarot has always called to me, providing profound spiritual and archetypal insights into the human journey. The Fool represents the brave soul setting out on the journey of human incarnation, taking a leap of faith and trusting in the love of spirit, the universe, and the eternal energy of all things. This leap into matter results in the Fool's seeming loss of infinite knowledge, hence the name.
Each soul's level of forgetting varies, influenced by past incarnations and pre-incarnation agreements. Every life is unique and important, offering a multitude of experiences. When the Fool awakens in physical form, they first meet the Magician, symbolizing the cultivation of the physical form and the connection to the body itself. The body is a magnificent, highly evolved technology gifted from our ancestors, including our space brothers and sisters' DNA. The Magician represents our innate ability to focus on what we want and stay purposefully in movement towards it—our willpower and intellect. This impacts the physical body and reality in many ways.
But why, in the tarot tableau, would the Fool meet the Magician first instead of the nurturing Empress especially since this is a journey that includes early childhood? The answer lies in the Magician's representation of thought, will, and ego. All these things seek to fulfill our desires, including our necessary desire for food, experienced very early in life. The ego is not good or bad; it is a neutral anchor that makes the experience of seeming separate from everything possible.
The ego is programmed, it learns, it focuses on learning, and it will get what it wants. There can be quite the frustrated emotional and mental upheaval when it does not get that thing in the desired and envisioned way. This is why this is just the first step of the journey and the benefit of 20 more cards (there are 22 major arcana) to help us find our way back home to remembering all aspects.
As we grow and develop it is important to remember that the Magician need not be a practitioner of magick or spiritual pursuits; it is our innate ability to focus and act on our intentions. However, power is never solely ours in isolation from the source. The universe always guides us back to our true desires, beyond the ego’s limited perspective. This transformation and feedback loop occur in the subconscious through the divine connection, as represented in the High Priestess card, the next archetypal representation the fool meets.
As above, so below. Another thing this Magician card can represent is our ability to override bodily messages or suppress emotions which of course is only a temporarily ability. Eventually, both our physical bodies and the universe redirects us to what is needing our attention and cultivation. This is not always a simple thing to navigate. The Tarot Tableau Aka the Fool's journey, as depicted in the Tarot's Major Arcana, shows the journey of the soul towards remembering what is always was. offers support, opportunities, and guidance. The minor arcana offers greater detail and how to help us navigate the many different expressions and situations we may experience in our lives. Overall, Tarot is a tool to assist in gaining clarity and focus in tuning into our deep inner knowing, divine cosmic wisdom, and intuitive connection to all things.
The imbalanced Magician energy reminds us that in wanting to create, manifest, and improve things, we sometimes miss what is already great and what is already going well. It is important to make time to just be with those things too, gaining clarity that what is truly desired may have already manifested.
We can learn from ancient wisdom in cards, ancient buildings and structures, writings, images, the stars, and our own DNA. We are the mystics and channels. We are the alchemists doing our great work by remembering this information and living it on the New Earth at this time.
Please be sure to give yourself and others as much grace and ease as you can. Breathe into your heart, feel and love even when it hurts, and even when it seems like others have hurt you, knowing that there is a part of you that can never be hurt, destroyed, or diminished.
Much love,
Jason
