What Is Sekhem? (Short Definition)

Sekhem is an ancient Egyptian-lineage energy healing practice, sometimes called Egyptian Reiki. Here's a clear, short definition of what it is.

Sekhem is an ancient Egyptian-lineage energy healing practice, sometimes called Egyptian Reiki, in which a practitioner channels energy through the hands while working with the Neteru, Egyptian archetypal deities, as cosmic energies. It works through the soul chakra above the head and the earth chakra below the feet, and is considered more multidimensional than Reiki, touching past, future and parallel life themes.

Where it comes from

Jason is a certified master Sekhem Energy Practitioner. His lineage traces to Juliet Carillo, whose teacher Gamal is a fifth-generation alchemist in Egypt known for his Egyptian oils, which Jason uses in sessions. He describes the practice simply: "I am merely the channel. They do the work."

What a session looks like

A Sekhem energy healing session runs 90 minutes. It typically includes grounding, channeled hands-on energy work, sound, sage, cedar and oils, followed by journaling and a debrief where Jason shares what came through. Experiences with Sekhem vary from person to person. Clients have described feelings of deep relaxation, warmth, emotional release, greater clarity, peacefulness, and a stronger sense of connection with themselves. Some people also describe physical sensations or shifts during or following a session. These experiences are personal and are not presented as expected or guaranteed outcomes.

What the name itself points to

Sekhem is sometimes translated as power or strength, and Jason describes it as "the first energy, the power of powers," connected to a time he associates with before the fall of ancient Egypt into recorded history. In this understanding, the Neteru, figures like Horus the falcon, Sekhmet the lion and Thoth the ibis, aren't simply historical deities but cosmic archetypal energies and star family, ways for humans to relate to forces that are otherwise abstract. Jason works with whichever of these energies shows up for a given client and session, rather than directing the process himself. That's part of what he means when he says the work is channeled rather than performed.

How it's different from a typical wellness treatment

Because Sekhem sessions involve hands-on energy work, sound and oils, people sometimes expect it to function like a spa treatment or massage. It isn't structured that way. There's an intentional arc to a session: grounding and intention setting at the start, channeled energy work through the middle, and journaling with a verbal debrief at the end, where Jason shares what he received. The felt experience varies by person and by session, since Jason says each one responds to what's actually needed in the moment rather than following a fixed, identical script every time.
